Specific Affirmations

When you finally realize affirmations work and the positive statements help you feel better, you may try someone else's by reading books and blogs and listening to CDs. Over time these affirmations will change your attitude but something's missing.

Affirmations are helpful, but the real power fires up when you write your own. Your statements should reflect what you want and your vision. Be specific. Be specific. Be specific.

So before you start creating your own personal affirmations, get together your thoughts about what you want. If you know what you want, perfect! Specificity will roll off your pen.

Problem may be when you are not sure and/or don't have a vision.

If you aren't sure, ask questions? Do I want to get married? If so, when and what kind of mate? Do I want a job or career? What kind? How much money do I want to make?

Affirmations that follow might be: I choose to find a happy healthy mate and get married in a year's time. I can't wait until I step into my new job as a writer for the New York Times. I look forward to making $200,000 a year.

Tailor all your affirmations to your own desires and vision. If you have faith you can add affirmations like, "I thank you Lord for bringing the right mate to me and giving me a job as a writer and for increasing my income to $200,000."

If you're reading a positive thinking book that suggests, "I have perfect health," but it just so happens you have diabetes. You can script your own that match your needs. For example, "I choose to eat foods without sugar. I choose lean proteins, olive oil and raw vegetables to keep my insulin in line. I can't wait until my next blood tests show my sugar levels are lower!"

If you know what you want, you are miles ahead of everyone else who doesn't. Only when you have a clear picture of how you want your life to run are you ready to fire up and create your own affirmations.

"Not knowing what you want is a road to nowhere." Anonymous
